February 2012

A belated Happy New Year to everyone.  The year has gotten off to a very busy start with Vogue Knitting Live in NYC and the TNNA show in Phoenix, all within 10 days in January.  It was wonderful to see everyone who attended both shows.  The fiber community is varied and strong with such a wealth of talent and creativity.  There is truly a place for all skills, abilities, and tastes.  More and more fabulous books are being created and marketed with so many, many ideas.  I love to see and speak with the attendees at shows.  Friends, mothers and daughters, sisters and combinations thereof can be found "oooing and ahhhing" over fibers, colors and samples of garments, etc.

If you haven't been to a show in a while, you have a treat in store for you.  You can attend classes led by the best in the business on topics that range from beginning knitting to the most complicated techniques.  BagSmith will be joining wonderful vendors at many upcoming shows where the market place will be filled with the best the industry can offer.  Come join us.  Our next show is Stitches West in Santa Clara, CA.  We will be at all of the Stitches shows (South in April, MidWest in August and East in October.)  You will also find us at Vogue Knitting LIVE in Chicago in October.  Other shows will be announced as the year goes on.  There are so many fiber shows throughout the country, so check them out and support the fiber community whereever you can.  You are sure to find something to add to your stash or a project you just can't do without.

May 2012 bring you peace, love and lots of time for stitching - whatever your favorite technique!

As Thanksgiving week approaches I am busy preparing the house for my favorite holiday of the year. Since I was young, this holiday is the most festive with family and friends joining around the table for feasting, laughing and sharing stories.  The players in the chairs change from year to year depending on who is in town.  Sometimes it's a big crowd and other years our numbers are smaller, but no matter, the meal is traditional with turkey, stuffing, cranberries, veggies, home baked breads and lots of wine!  EB and Moira are in Canada this year, but we will be celebrating with them in a little while.

I am thankful this year for the support of family, friends, a terrific and dedicated staff and customers from far and wide who have embraced BagSmith products and projects.  I wish everyone a peaceful and safe holiday and hope you celebrate it in your own special way.

Our annual special runs from Monday, November 21 through Monday November 28, 2011.  Take advantage of our 20% discount on the entire site by entering the code below at checkout.  Make sure you join our mailing list for future specials and product introductions.

Tomorrow we will begin our journey to Atlanta for Stitches South. Prior to each show we find new products and design new projects. In the months leading up to this show we have been working on new designs incorporating double ended Tunisian crochet patterns. Tunisian crochet is a bit of a hybrid, a little like knitting and a little like crochet. It can create wonderful fabric, even double sided reversible fabric! If you come to Stitches you can see some of the new pieces we have been working on for this show. You can even try out the technique right in our booth. Sharing new ideas and techinques is great fun for us, especially because it involves new learning on our end! I hope to see many friends from past years and meet new ones as well. If you are in the Atlanta area, please come by and see us.

Just got word that our ProjectBag was given a great review in KnitCircus (www.knitcircus.com). This bag has been so popular over the years and we are so pleased to have it back on the market. KnitCircus is going to be doing a promotion with this bag, so keep checking their website for information. Maybe you will be one of the lucky ones.

I want to take a moment to applaud the staff at SOHO for mounting a terrific show last week - Vogue Knitting LIVE. We had a blast on the market floor with enthusiatic customers. There was great interest in all of our Big Stitch Tool, Big Stitch Alpaca Yarn, and the new BLISSA yarn and the accompanying pattern book. It was a wonderful crowd wearing fabulous hand-made pieces, one more beautiful than the next. The whole show was a WOW! Best of all, we were able to drive in and out of NY between the storms - whew!

We are so looking forward to putting up our booth at the Vogue Knitting Live show next week. Our booth will be loaded with lots of new products and projects, so if you are attending the show please stop by and see us.

Speaking of shows, you can see us at three February shows: The Pittsburgh Knit and Crochet Festival, Stitches West in Santa Clara, CA, and the TNNA Needlework Show in Nashville, TN. It is certainly a busy start to the new year and I hope a great one for everyone.

This is great weather to sit back and knit, crochet or do needlework no matter if you live in the North or South with weather systems blowing snow everywhere! Hope you are spending some quality time with your needles or hooks.

We have some special offers this week for holiday projects and stocking stuffers.

From Pagewood Farm we have their silk scarf kits with lots of great fibers to needle felt into the scarf. There are no rules with these kits. Add as little or as much of the fiber that you want and really create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. From Hand Painted Yarns we have their "scarf in a scarf" kits. These feature either alpaca blends or silk and wool blends and knit up in a jiffy with spectacular results.

Our popular Big Stitch Bundles are a favorite in the 16 oz size. We do have some Super Bundles in 24 and 32 oz sizes in fabulous colorways at special prices. These bundles are perfect for lap blankets and other larger projects and the prices are great. Limited supplies are available in the Super Bundles.

Yesterday I read a blog where the writer told the world that she would rather have Sajou Scissors than diamonds for Christmas. I have to admit that I was pleased to see this. Sajou Scissors are elegant, heirloom scissors and the perfect gift for those who knit, crochet, cross-stitch or embroider. From now until December 31, 2010, all Sajou Scissors are 15% off. If diamonds are a girl's best friend, than Sajou Scissors are a crafter's best tool!

If you can't decide on a gift for someone, consider a BagSmith Gift Certificate. These are now available online and my just be the perfect solution for that "hard to buy for" person in your life.

Happy Holiday Shopping to everyone.

November 29, 2010

I hope everyone had their fill of turkey and a good weekend of shopping, knitting, football or whatever pleased you. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with my family. Thanksgiving is truly my favorite holiday. This week we are featuring a few specials on some of our favorite products. Buy 2 Trendsetter Victory balls and receive a third free. If you love our ProjectBags, we are offering a free, matching yarn catcher with your purchase of this item. Sajou Linen Thread in the capsules are big favorites, so we are offering a four for the purchase of three deal with these - choose your colors! This thread is great for sewing seams, buttons and hems. I use it to reinforce knitted seams that will need strength. Enjoy!

Just received a copy of Franklin Habit's book "It Itches." What a hoot! The cartoons and stories are charming and very funny. It's a great gift for anyone who works with fiber. Check it out. This one is a terrific gift.

November 17, 2010

The holidays are fast approaching and my knitting needles are clicking away. I am making a sweater for a dear friend who picked out the yarn herself. I know that she will enjoy being wrapped in it and will think of the good times we share together whenever she wears it. Gifting pieces that I knit or crochet or giving a gift that is handmade gives me a special feeling, and I know that many fiber artists feel the same way. Many projects only take an hour or two and can be squeezed into busy schedules. There is still time......

October 18, 2010

This week I head out to Arrowmont to take a special class in knitting, crocheting and weaving with metals. The artist/teacher is Tracy Krumm. You can visit her website at: http://users.lmi.net/tkrumm/. Her work is stunning and I am looking forward to learning some new techniques. Maybe the experience will lead me in some new directions I can share with everyone..... Check out Arrowont. It is an incredible place to explore new ideas. http://www.arrowmont.org/

Stitches East is coming up at the end of the month in Hartford, CT. Please stop by our booth if you are attending that show. We would love to see you.
